The European Commission has declared 2018 the European Year of Cultural Heritage. We seize this opportunity to put maritime Heritage in the spotlight. We want you to share your most extraordinary story about your relationship with water. What is your favourite maritime heritage?
Maritime objects, (historic) ships, shipwrecks, bridges and maritime cultural landscapes are tangible remnants of our past relations with water. Intangible maritime heritage is also everywhere around us. History, personal memories, paintings, photographs, poems, are an important part of our maritime cultural heritage too. Our heritage is what we – as a society - wish to research and pass on to next generations. What maritime heritage do you want to keep for your children? Tell us. This is your chance! How to participate Choose your favourite maritime heritage and explain why. The story can be told on film, as a sound fragment or written, illustrated with or without pictures. Everything is allowed!
Maritime heritage is certainly not always positive. In recent discussions it is sometimes still a very living part of unprocessed trauma. Maritime heritage is part of a discussion that connects the present with the past. And that ultimately also determines who we are.How to participate
